In the cauldron boil and break

IN THE CAULDRON BOIL AND BREAK

The three witches were distraught when their ancient and prized cauldron cracked as they were stirring it and spilled its contents all over the ground. Macbeth was due to drop by in a few days and without a cauldron to stir they would be unable to perform their witchly duties for him.

Fortunately the witches had done a few favours for the local blacksmith of late, so Hecate called on him to see if he could help out. He agreed at once and set about casting a superb new cauldron to the witches' strict specifications, promising to deliver it at least a day before Macbeth was due.

Sure enough he turned up early on the appointed day with a magnificent cauldron. As the witches admired it, Hecate asked, "You're certain it's safe to put this on a very hot fire, with all our potion ingredients? Because our last cauldron cracked when we dropped in the eye of newt and toe of frog - that's pretty strong magic, you know..."

"Absolutely ladies," said the blacksmith. "All my cookware is guaranteed coven safe."
