I decided to take my new girlfriend with me on our annual Geological Society weekend ramble to Scotland.
We were walking along a hillside when she pointed to some pinkish, foliated metamorphosed igneous rocks that were glittering in the sunlight.
"That's nice," she said.
"Clever girl," I said. "I thought you didn't know anything about geology."
